Swedish Aral Sea Society

The Swedish Aral Sea Society aims at:

• providing information about the Aral Sea area;
• creating opinion on the environment and the health situation in the region;
• influencing politicians and authorities, national and international organisations to take concrete actions;
• carrying out own projects.

As the Aral Sea depletion mainly is a result of mismanagement of water resources, both related to water quantity and water quality of the rivers discharging into the Aral Sea. A large part of the activities of the Society has concerned information, awareness raising, capacity building and opinion creation about the need for a more sustainable use of water resources. This has been done through seminars, school programmes, publications and scientific papers, participation in scientific conferences and by networking.
